forest stitchesaDelve into the magical world of the woods and capture the spirit of the trees through this stitch-rich, intensive course.

The process will begin with some close-looking at the trees that live in the acre of wild garden surrounding my studio, followed by some research into the facts and myths associated with your favourite tree, garnered from the bank of reference materials provided back at base.  You will then begin to explore ways of expressing the essential nature of your tree, through mark-making onto fabric, using text, frottage, monoprint and stencil.  The emerging shapes will provide a starting point for composition.

Unlike the other stitching courses on the calendar, this course has an emphasis on the richness to be found in densely-stitched work and the aim is to produce either one highly-developed piece of work or four small panels representing your chosen tree as it changes throughout the seasons.

This course is aimed at the experienced stitcher and so it is recommended that you attend one of the other stitch courses on the calendar before signing up for this one.

All materials, refreshments and cooked lunches are included in the price. Please bring your sewing machine with you.

Much of the attraction of this area of the country is the wildness it has retained as a result of the limited impact of human habitation.  Of course, this means that there are fewer choices of accommodation for the intrepid visitor, but there are still a wide number of options, many of which can be found on the Accommodation links page.
